Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline the Coachella festival in 2018.
Her performance took place at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 14 and April 21, 2018. The two weekend performances were widely described as a landmark moment because no Black woman had previously headlined the festival.
The set included a large marching-band and collegiate-style production, with appearances by Jay-Z, Solange, and a Destiny’s Child reunion featuring Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The performance was later documented in the Netflix film and live album Homecoming.
Beyoncé had originally been scheduled to perform in 2017 but postponed after becoming pregnant with twins. Her 2018 appearance therefore followed a one-year delay and became one of the festival’s most influential headline sets.
