Which Shrek film introduced the character of Puss in Boots?

Shrek 2 introduced the character of Puss in Boots.

Puss in Boots first appears as a skilled feline bounty hunter hired to eliminate Shrek. He initially attacks Shrek and Donkey, but soon changes sides after Shrek spares him. Puss then becomes one of Shrek’s closest companions, joining the ogre and Donkey on their adventures.

Antonio Banderas voices Puss in the English-language Shrek films. The character combines the swashbuckling image of a swordsman with the comic appeal of a small cat, including the famous wide-eyed expression he uses to persuade others. His name and costume refer to the traditional European fairy tale Puss in Boots.

Puss returns in Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. His popularity eventually led to the 2011 spin-off film Puss in Boots and its 2022 sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Those films expand his backstory beyond the Shrek storyline.
