The first Shrek film ends with Shrek and Fiona’s wedding celebration.
After Shrek rescues Fiona and stops Lord Farquaad, the story moves to the wedding at Duloc. Fiona’s curse is revealed when she remains an ogre after sunset, and Shrek tells her that she is beautiful. Their kiss completes the transformation, making Fiona permanently an ogre.
The ending then shifts to a celebration at the swamp, where Shrek and Fiona marry with their friends present. The closing sequence uses the song “I’m a Believer” and presents the couple’s happiness as the film’s true fairy-tale ending.
This conclusion differs from many traditional princess stories because Fiona does not become human permanently. Instead, the movie treats her ogre form as her authentic identity and makes acceptance, rather than conventional beauty, the basis of the romance.
