Which shipyard built RMS Titanic in Belfast, Ireland?
Answer
Harland and Wolff
Answer
Harland and Wolff
Harland and Wolff built RMS Titanic in Belfast, Ireland. The shipyard constructed Titanic for the White Star Line as part of the Olympic class, alongside RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic.
Titanic was built in Belfast between 1909 and 1911. Its construction formed part of a major competition among British shipping companies and shipbuilders to create faster, larger, and more luxurious Atlantic liners. Harland and Wolff had a close working relationship with White Star Line and produced many of the company’s most famous vessels.
Titanic was assembled in the shipyard’s large gantry and launched on 31 May 1911. Outfitting continued afterward, including installation of engines, interiors, lifeboats, and passenger facilities. The ship entered service in April 1912 and sank during its maiden voyage.
A common mix-up is naming Southampton as Titanic’s building location. Southampton was its departure port, while Belfast was the ship’s construction city.
