Which Royal Caribbean cruise ship introduced the first ice-skating rink at sea?
Answer
Voyager of the Seas
Answer
Voyager of the Seas
Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas introduced the first ice-skating rink at sea.
The ship entered service in 1999 as the first vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Voyager class. Its Studio B entertainment venue contained a full-sized ice rink, allowing passengers to watch professional skating shows and, at scheduled times, skate themselves.
Voyager of the Seas was notable for bringing several resort-style attractions to a cruise ship, including an indoor promenade, a rock-climbing wall, and the ice rink. These features helped establish the modern mega-cruise-ship design, in which entertainment spaces became as important as cabins and dining rooms.
The rink is sometimes confused with later Royal Caribbean innovations, such as FlowRider surf simulators and zip lines. Those attractions appeared on other ships, but Voyager of the Seas is associated with the first onboard ice rink at sea.
