Which Shakespeare play has “midsummer” in its title and features Oberon, Titania and Puck?

The story behind the answer

Shakespeare’s play featuring Oberon, Titania and Puck is A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The comedy follows four young Athenians, a group of amateur actors and the fairy court of Oberon and Titania. Much of the action takes place in an enchanted forest, where magical interference causes romantic confusion.

The title connects the drama with midsummer imagery, although the play does not present a documentary account of a real-world midsummer festival. Its exact first performance date is uncertain, but it was written in the 1590s and was printed in quarto in 1600.

A common mix-up is with Twelfth Night, another Shakespeare comedy whose title refers to a calendar festival. The two plays are separate works: A Midsummer Night’s Dream centers on fairies, enchanted love and theatrical performance, while Twelfth Night is set around mistaken identity and disguise.
