Which Stockholm island hosts Skansen’s annual Swedish Midsummer celebrations?

The story behind the answer

Djurgården hosts Skansen’s annual Swedish Midsummer celebrations in Stockholm.

Djurgården is an island and urban park in central Stockholm. It contains Skansen, the Vasa Museum, the Nordic Museum and several other major cultural attractions, making it one of the city’s most visited areas.

Skansen’s Midsummer program uses the museum’s historic setting to present Swedish seasonal customs, including maypole raising, folk dancing, music and traditional food. The island’s parks and museums make it especially suited to a large public celebration.

Djurgården is sometimes described simply as a royal park district, but it is also geographically an island connected to central Stockholm. Its name is commonly translated as “the animal garden.”
