Which sea lies between the United Kingdom and Norway?

The story behind the answer

The North Sea lies between the United Kingdom and Norway. It is a shallow marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean, bordered by Great Britain on the west and northern mainland Europe on the east and south.

Norway forms part of the North Sea’s eastern boundary, while Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France also have coasts on it. In the south, the North Sea connects to the Atlantic through the English Channel. In the north, it opens toward the Norwegian Sea. It also connects with the Baltic Sea through the Skagerrak and Kattegat near Denmark and Sweden.

The North Sea is sometimes confused with the English Channel because both lie near the United Kingdom and connect with the Atlantic. The English Channel is the narrower waterway between southern England and northern France; the North Sea is the much larger basin east and north of Britain. The region has long been important for fishing, shipping, offshore wind farms, and oil and natural-gas production. Its coastline also includes the Orkney, Shetland, and Frisian island groups.
