Answer
Persian Gulf
Which sea lies between Saudi Arabia and Iran? The answer is the Persian Gulf.
The Persian Gulf is a shallow inlet of the Indian Ocean, extending northwest from the Strait of Hormuz. Iran forms its northern shore, while Saudi Arabia occupies much of the southwestern coastline; Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman also border its waters.
The gulf has long been a major center of trade, fishing, pearl diving, and maritime travel. Since the mid-20th century, it has become especially important for petroleum exports, with large oil and natural-gas fields beneath and around its basin.
A common mix-up is the Gulf of Oman, which lies beyond the Strait of Hormuz and opens directly into the Arabian Sea. The name “Arabian Gulf” is also used by some governments and communities, but “Persian Gulf” is the standard geographic name used in this question.
