Saudi Aramco, listed in 2019, is the world’s largest oil company by proven crude-oil reserves.
Saudi Aramco is the national oil company of Saudi Arabia and is formally known as Saudi Arabian Oil Company. Its initial public offering took place on the Saudi Exchange in December 2019. The offering made it one of the world’s most valuable listed companies and gave public investors a stake while the Saudi government retained majority ownership.
The company’s reserves are concentrated in Saudi Arabia, including the giant Ghawar oil field and the Safaniya offshore field. Aramco’s operations cover exploration, production, refining, chemicals, marketing, and shipping, making it an integrated energy company rather than only a crude producer.
Market capitalization and oil reserves measure different things. Market cap reflects investors’ valuation of listed shares, while reserves describe estimated recoverable petroleum resources. Aramco’s share price, oil prices, production outlook, and government ownership structure all influence its market value.
