Saudi Aramco is the world’s largest oil producer by market capitalization.
Saudi Aramco is the common name of Saudi Arabian Oil Company, the state-controlled energy company based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It operates across exploration, production, refining, chemicals, and distribution, giving it a much broader business than crude-oil extraction alone.
The company’s origins trace back to the California-Arabian Standard Oil Company, established in 1933. Saudi Arabia later took increasing control, and the modern company became fully state-owned in 1988. Saudi Aramco became publicly listed on the Saudi Exchange in December 2019, although the government retained the dominant ownership position.
Market-cap rankings can change with oil prices, share prices, exchange rates, and the number of shares counted. Saudi Aramco is therefore best identified as the leading publicly listed oil company by market value, rather than as the world’s largest company in every possible ranking.
