Which rover carried the Ingenuity helicopter to Mars?

The story behind the answer

The rover that carried the Ingenuity helicopter to Mars was Perseverance. Both arrived on February 18, 2021, at Jezero Crater during NASA's Mars 2020 mission.

Ingenuity was mounted beneath Perseverance and protected by a debris shield during landing. After the rover drove to a suitable area, it released the helicopter and moved away. Ingenuity's role was initially a short technology demonstration: NASA wanted to determine whether powered, controlled flight was possible in Mars's extremely thin atmosphere.

Ingenuity made its first powered flight on April 19, 2021, becoming the first aircraft to achieve powered flight on another planet. Perseverance served as its communications relay, sending flight data between the helicopter and mission controllers on Earth. The helicopter ultimately completed 72 flights, greatly exceeding its original demonstration plan.

Curiosity and Opportunity were also NASA Mars rovers, but neither transported Ingenuity. Perseverance continues the broader mission of studying Jezero's ancient environment and collecting rock samples.
