Riverton, Kansas, contains the restored Eisler Brothers Store, now commonly known as Nelson’s Old Riverton Store.
The store opened in 1925, just before Route 66 was established, and later served travelers on the Kansas segment of the highway. It operated as a general store and gathering place, selling everyday goods to local residents and passing motorists.
Riverton is one of the most recognizable Route 66 communities in Kansas, even though Kansas had only about 13 miles of the highway. The store is associated with the Eisler brothers’ original business and later with the Nelson family, who preserved it. The nearby Rainbow Bridge is another notable historic Route 66 feature in the same small corridor.
