Which California Route 66 town is associated with the historic Bagdad Café?
Answer
Newberry Springs
Answer
Newberry Springs
Newberry Springs is the California Route 66 town associated with the historic Bagdad Café.
The Bagdad Café stands along the old Route 66 corridor in Newberry Springs, California. It became internationally recognizable after appearing in the 1987 film Bagdad Cafe, whose story and imagery helped turn the isolated desert business into a cultural landmark.
The café is sometimes confused with Barstow because Barstow is a major Route 66 hub in the Mojave Desert and contains several important highway museums and sites. Needles is another prominent eastern California Route 66 town, but it is not the location of the Bagdad Café.
The business was formerly known as the Sidewinder Café before adopting the Bagdad Café name. Its fame demonstrates how cinema gave renewed attention to remote Route 66 places, even as the original highway itself had been bypassed by Interstate 40.
