Which Rolls-Royce model was the company’s first post-war all-new car?
Answer
Silver Wraith
Answer
Silver Wraith
The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith was the company’s first post-war all-new car.
Introduced in 1946, the Silver Wraith replaced the pre-war Wraith and became Rolls-Royce’s first new model after the Second World War. It used a separate chassis, allowing customers to order bodies from specialist coachbuilders rather than receiving only a standardized factory body.
The Silver Wraith was powered initially by a 4.3-litre six-cylinder engine, later enlarged to 4.6 litres. Its chassis was also adapted for long-wheelbase versions, giving chauffeur-driven owners additional rear-seat space.
The Silver Wraith is sometimes confused with the Silver Dawn, which was introduced later and shared much of its mechanical design. The Silver Wraith’s importance lies in its post-war position and its continuation of traditional coachbuilt Rolls-Royce construction.
