Which Rolls-Royce model was launched in 2009 as the marque’s smaller luxury saloon?

The story behind the answer

The Rolls-Royce Ghost was launched in 2009 as the marque’s smaller luxury saloon.

The Ghost was developed as a more compact and less formal alternative to the Phantom. It was named after the Silver Ghost, the legendary 40/50 hp model whose reputation helped establish Rolls-Royce as a luxury manufacturer. Despite its smaller position in the range, the Ghost remained a full-size luxury car with a powerful V12 engine and extensive hand finishing.

The first production Ghosts were built at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ Goodwood plant in England. The model broadened the company’s customer base and became an important commercial success under BMW ownership.

The name can cause confusion because Rolls-Royce has used several supernatural or atmospheric names. Wraith is a fastback coupé introduced in 2013, while Dawn is a convertible introduced in 2015. The Ghost is the saloon model in this group.
