Which Rolls-Royce model replaced the Silver Shadow in 1980?

The story behind the answer

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit replaced the Silver Shadow in 1980.

Rolls-Royce launched the Silver Spirit in 1980 as the successor to the long-running Silver Shadow. It introduced a more formal, angular exterior while retaining the brand’s traditional emphasis on quietness, handcrafted interiors and smooth V8 power. The model was built at the company’s Crewe factory in England.

The Silver Spirit formed the basis of a family of closely related Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars. These included the Silver Spur, which had a longer wheelbase, and later derivatives such as the Touring Limousine. Bentley equivalents included the Mulsanne and related models, reflecting the close relationship between the two marques at the time.

The Silver Seraph is a frequent mix-up: it arrived much later, in 1998, and succeeded the Silver Spirit family. The Corniche was also related to the Silver Shadow era but was a separate convertible and coupé line rather than the direct replacement for the Silver Shadow saloon.
