The Rolls-Royce Trent 700 powered the Airbus A330 in its principal Rolls-Royce engine option.
The Trent 700 was developed for the original Airbus A330 family and entered service in 1995. It is a three-shaft high-bypass turbofan and belongs to the Trent family that became one of Rolls-Royce’s most important commercial-aircraft engine lines.
The A330 was also available with engines from General Electric and Pratt & Whitney. This means that identifying an A330 by aircraft type alone does not establish which engine it carries; the Trent 700 is the Rolls-Royce-specific answer.
Later Trent engines served different aircraft. The Trent 1000 was designed for the Boeing 787, while the Trent XWB was developed for the Airbus A350. Their related names can make these applications easy to mix up.
