Which Roald Dahl story features the wealthy character Mike Teavee?

The story behind the answer

Mike Teavee appears in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Mike is one of the five children invited into Willy Wonka’s factory after finding a golden ticket. He is obsessed with television and frequently talks about violent cowboy programmes. His behaviour leads him to enter Wonka’s television chocolate experiment, after which he becomes extremely small.

The character’s surname is written “Teavee” in the original novel, a pun on the phrase “TV.” In the 1971 film, the character is called Mike Teevee, while the 2005 film uses Mike Teavee. These spelling differences can cause confusion when identifying the book version.

Charlie Bucket, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, and Violet Beauregarde are the other ticket winners. Mike is the final child to leave the main factory tour in the novel.
