Which Roald Dahl book was adapted into the 2009 film directed by Wes Anderson?

The story behind the answer

Roald Dahl’s book Fantastic Mr. Fox was adapted into Wes Anderson’s 2009 film.

The stop-motion film follows Mr. Fox as he returns to stealing food from three farmers, despite promising his wife that he will live a safer life. Anderson co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach and used distinctive handcrafted animation to depict the animals and their underground world.

George Clooney voiced Mr. Fox, while Meryl Streep voiced Mrs. Fox. The film also featured voices by Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Willem Dafoe. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

Dahl’s original book was published in 1970 and is considerably shorter than the film. The screen version expands the family and community relationships while retaining the farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean, whose names are central to the original story.
