Which Roald Dahl book introduced the character Willy Wonka?
Answer
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Answer
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory introduced Roald Dahl’s character Willy Wonka.
The 1964 novel follows Charlie Bucket, a poor boy who finds one of five golden tickets admitting children to the mysterious chocolate factory. Willy Wonka, the factory’s eccentric owner, guides the visitors through rooms filled with extraordinary sweets and inventions.
The book’s title can be confused with its sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, published in 1972. The sequel continues Charlie’s story and includes Wonka, but it is not the book that first introduced him. The original novel has also been adapted into several screen versions, including the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Willy Wonka became one of Dahl’s most recognizable creations, but the novel’s central viewpoint remains Charlie’s. The factory visit exposes the children’s behavior and contrasts it with Charlie’s kindness and restraint.
