Which river flows through the city of Budapest?
Answer
Danube
Answer
Danube
The Danube River flows through Budapest.
Budapest developed from settlements on both banks of the river. Buda and Óbuda stood on the western bank, while Pest occupied the flatter eastern bank. The three areas were formally united in 1873, creating the modern city.
The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river after the Volga. It rises in Germany’s Black Forest and travels through or along the borders of ten countries before reaching the Black Sea. That makes it one of the most international rivers in the world.
In Budapest, bridges including the Széchenyi Chain Bridge connect the two sides. The river also separates the hilly Buda landscape from Pest’s broad plain. Budapest’s riverfront and historic Buda Castle district were recognized together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
