Which river flows through Budapest before emptying into the Black Sea?
Answer
Danube River
Answer
Danube River
The Danube River flows through Budapest before emptying into the Black Sea.
The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river, after the Volga. It rises in Germany’s Black Forest region, where the Brigach and Breg rivers join at Donaueschingen, and then travels generally eastward through or along ten countries. It passes major capitals including Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade.
Budapest developed on both banks of the river: Buda and Óbuda lie on the western side, while Pest lies on the eastern side. Bridges such as the Széchenyi Chain Bridge connect the city’s two halves and make the Danube central to Budapest’s landscape and history.
Near its mouth, the Danube forms the Danube Delta, a vast wetland shared mainly by Romania and Ukraine. The delta is one of Europe’s most important habitats for birds and fish. The river has also served as a trade route, political boundary, and cultural link between Central and Southeastern Europe.
