Walmart became the first company to report more than US$600 billion in annual revenue.
Walmart is an American retail corporation founded by Sam Walton. Its first store opened in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1962, and the company was incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 1969. Walmart grew through large discount stores, supercenters, membership warehouses, e-commerce, and a highly developed distribution network.
Walmart's annual revenue exceeded US$600 billion in fiscal 2024, which ended on January 31, 2024. Its enormous sales base comes from groceries, general merchandise, fuel, online commerce, and international operations.
Revenue is not the same as market capitalization. Walmart can rank among the world's largest companies by sales while its stock-market value differs from technology companies with higher profit margins or faster expected growth.
