Pokémon Pokopia portrays Kanto after humans have abandoned it.
The setting is a post-apocalyptic version of Kanto in which the environment has become unsuitable for both humans and Pokémon. Ditto awakens in this damaged world and begins restoring habitats, while Professor Tangrowth investigates what happened to the people who once lived there.
Humanity’s disappearance is part of the game’s central mystery. Logs left behind by humans explain that inexplicable environmental phenomena made the landscape increasingly inhospitable. The survivors eventually departed for outer space and stored Pokémon in a large computer system.
This version of Kanto is not a conventional remake of the original region. Pokopia uses the region as a narrative foundation, but its map and story focus on reconstruction, ecological recovery, and community life. The presence of Pokémon from Generations I through IX also makes clear that the cast is much broader than Kanto’s original Pokédex.
