Which record label released the Beach Boys' early Capitol-era albums?

The story behind the answer

Capitol Records released The Beach Boys’ early Capitol-era albums. The band signed with Capitol in 1962 after early approaches to other labels did not succeed, beginning one of the most important label partnerships in American pop history.

Capitol staff producer Nick Venet oversaw the group’s initial relationship with the label. The debut album, Surfin’ Safari, arrived in October 1962, followed by albums including Surfin’ U.S.A., Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Volume 2, and All Summer Long. These records established the group’s surf, hot-rod, and harmony-pop identity while turning them into national stars.

The label relationship continued through the band’s most influential mid-1960s work, including The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), and Pet Sounds. Later releases involved other labels and affiliated imprints, which can cause confusion: Brother Records and Reprise became important in the group’s later career, while Candix had been connected to an early single rather than the core Capitol album run.
