The experts explain the materials and techniques involved while attempting to preserve the object’s history and appearance.
Jay Blades is the series’ presenter and a furniture restorer. He introduces the owners and often discusses why an object matters to a family. The workshop is located at the Weald and Downland Living Museum in Singleton, West Sussex.
The BBC program premiered in 2017. It is different from Antiques Roadshow, which generally assesses the value and history of objects brought to experts. The Repair Shop focuses on practical restoration and emotional stories, and restored objects are not automatically sold afterward.
