Dr. Dre was the N.W.A member who later produced Eminem’s major-label debut album, The Slim Shady LP.
Born Andre Young, Dr. Dre was a founding member of N.W.A, the influential Compton group whose 1988 album Straight Outta Compton helped bring gangsta rap into the mainstream. After leaving the group, he co-founded Death Row Records and later established Aftermath Entertainment.
Dr. Dre encountered Eminem through a demo presented by Interscope executive Jimmy Iovine. He signed and mentored the Detroit rapper, then became one of the principal producers of The Slim Shady LP, released in 1999. The album was Eminem’s second studio album but his major-label debut; Dr. Dre also appeared on tracks such as “Guilty Conscience.”
The wording can cause a small technical misunderstanding: Dre did not produce every song alone. Eminem, the Bass Brothers, and other contributors also handled production. Nevertheless, Dr. Dre is the single canonical answer because he played the central producer and executive role.
