Tyler, the Creator’s 2019 album that won the 2020 Grammy for Best Rap Album was Igor.
Released on May 17, 2019, Igor was Tyler’s fifth studio album and a major stylistic turn. It blends hip-hop with soul, R&B, synth-pop and heavily processed vocals, following a loose narrative about an unstable romantic triangle. Tyler wrote and produced the album, with guest appearances including Kanye West, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert and Solange.
Igor debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Tyler’s first album to top that chart. At the 62nd Grammy Awards in January 2020, it won Best Rap Album over projects including Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III and YBN Cordae’s The Lost Boy. A common mix-up is choosing Flower Boy, Tyler’s previous 2017 album, which was nominated but did not win.
