The rapper known for the song “All Eyez on Me” is 2Pac. Released in 1996, the track appeared on his fourth studio album, also titled All Eyez on Me, one of the defining albums of West Coast hip-hop. The song was produced by Johnny “J” and features fellow rapper Big Syke.
The album arrived after Tupac Shakur joined Death Row Records, following his release from prison in late 1995. Its two-disc format showcased his aggressive, reflective, and highly prolific style during one of the most important periods of his career. The title track helped establish the album’s themes of fame, surveillance, loyalty, danger, and public scrutiny.
A common mix-up is confusing the title track with other songs from the same album, including “California Love,” “How Do U Want It,” “I Ain’t Mad at Cha,” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” Snoop Dogg appears on the last of those, but he did not record “All Eyez on Me.” 2Pac’s birth name was Tupac Amaru Shakur, and he was also widely credited simply as Tupac.
