Which Ramones album, their third, was released in 1977?
Answer
Rocket to Russia
Answer
Rocket to Russia
The Ramones’ third album, released in 1977, was Rocket to Russia. Issued by Sire Records on 4 November 1977, it followed the band’s self-titled debut and Leave Home, both released in 1976.
Rocket to Russia captured the Ramones’ gift for compressing catchy melodies, fast tempos, and humorous lyrics into short, forceful songs. Its track list includes “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker,” “Rockaway Beach,” and “Teenage Lobotomy,” all central to the band’s reputation. The album was recorded in Manhattan at Mediasound Studios and mastered at the Power Station.
The record was produced by Tony Bongiovi and Tommy Ramone, whose birth name was Thomas Erdelyi. Tommy was the band’s original drummer and remained behind the kit for this album, his last Ramones studio appearance as a full-time member. He left the group in 1978 to concentrate on producing.
The alternatives can be confusing because Leave Home is also from 1977, while Road to Ruin followed in 1978. End of the Century was released in 1980, after the group’s sound had changed substantially.
