Which Northern Irish punk band released the 1979 debut album 'Inflammable Material'?

The story behind the answer

The Northern Irish punk band that released the 1979 debut album “Inflammable Material” was Stiff Little Fingers.

The album emerged from Belfast’s punk scene during the Troubles, when sectarian conflict, deprivation and police violence shaped everyday life. Stiff Little Fingers formed in 1977, with Jake Burns, Henry Cluney, Ali McMordie and Brian Faloon among the key early members. Their music combined punk’s speed and aggression with unusually direct commentary on Northern Ireland.

Released by Rough Trade on February 2, 1979, Inflammable Material was historically important beyond its music. It became the first album released by an independent label to enter the UK Top 20, helping demonstrate that independent punk records could reach a national audience.

A common mix-up is The Undertones, another major Northern Irish punk band from Derry. The Undertones were contemporaries, but their self-titled debut album did not arrive until 1979 and was not Inflammable Material.
