Death Proof features the fictional stunt driver Mike as its villain.
Kurt Russell plays Stuntman Mike, a former Hollywood stunt performer who uses a specially reinforced car to stalk women. The vehicle’s “death-proof” design protects its driver in crashes, but passengers and other road users remain dangerously exposed.
The film was released in 2007 as Quentin Tarantino’s contribution to Grindhouse, the double feature he made with Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez directed the companion film Planet Terror, while Tarantino wrote and directed Death Proof.
Death Proof is often remembered for its extended conversations, vintage exploitation-film presentation, and its climactic pursuit. Russell’s performance deliberately contrasts Mike’s threatening behavior with the character’s outwardly charming and professional persona.
