In Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, Stuntman Mike uses a stunt car to kill his victims.
Kurt Russell plays Stuntman Mike, a former stuntman who drives a specially reinforced vehicle designed to protect its driver during crashes. He exploits that safety feature as a weapon against women who ride with him or cross his path.
The vehicle is not simply a generic automobile: the film emphasizes its “death-proof” construction from the driver’s perspective. The contrast between protection for Mike and danger for passengers is central to the character’s method and to the film’s title.
Death Proof was released in 2007 as part of the double feature Grindhouse, presented with Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror. Tarantino’s film deliberately imitates exploitation and road-movie conventions, including damaged-print effects and extended dialogue scenes.
