In Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, the cinema owner who plans revenge is Shosanna Dreyfus.
Shosanna, played by Mélanie Laurent, escapes the massacre of her family and later runs a Paris cinema under the name Emmanuelle Mimieux. When the premiere of a Nazi propaganda film is scheduled there, she develops a plan involving the cinema itself and a recorded message.
Her storyline is distinct from that of Bridget von Hammersmark, the German film star and Allied agent played by Diane Kruger. Both women are central to the plot, but Shosanna’s role is tied to the cinema and her family’s murder.
Inglourious Basterds was released in 2009. Its alternate-history plot combines fictional characters with real historical figures, including Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels, while changing the outcome of the war’s events.
