Which Queen member wrote the stadium anthem “We Will Rock You”?
Answer
Brian May
Answer
Brian May
Brian May wrote Queen’s stadium anthem “We Will Rock You.”
The song appeared on Queen’s 1977 album News of the World and was written by May after the band’s audience began singing and clapping along at concerts. Its famous arrangement is built largely from stomps, claps and vocals, making it easy for crowds to perform without instruments.
May has explained that the song was designed as a communal concert piece. It is often paired with “We Are the Champions,” another track from News of the World, although the two songs were released as separate compositions. The recording’s strikingly sparse rhythm also helped it become one of the most recognizable sports-stadium anthems.
A common mix-up is crediting the song to Freddie Mercury because Mercury sings the lead vocal. May, however, wrote both the music and lyrics, while Queen recorded the performance as a band.
