Fun in Space
Answer
Fun in Space
Roger Taylor’s first solo album was titled Fun in Space.
Taylor released Fun in Space in 1981 while he was still Queen’s drummer. He wrote, sang, and played most of the instruments on the album, although several musicians assisted with particular recordings. The project allowed him to explore material outside Queen’s collaborative framework and highlighted his interest in synthesizers, layered vocals, and compact rock songs.
The album was preceded by the single “Future Management” and reached number 18 on the UK Albums Chart. Its cover and promotional material used Taylor’s solo identity rather than Queen’s familiar crest or four-member presentation.
Taylor later released additional solo albums, including Strange Frontier in 1984 and Happiness? in 1994. He also formed The Cross, a band that issued three studio albums during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Those later projects are why Fun in Space is sometimes overlooked as his first solo release.
