Which Queen album was the first to use a computer-generated cover image?
Answer
The Miracle
Answer
The Miracle
The Miracle was the first Queen album to use a computer-generated cover image.
Released in 1989, The Miracle features a cover that digitally combines the faces of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon into a single composite image. The effect presents the four members as one unified face, reflecting the album’s emphasis on Queen as a group rather than on individual personalities.
The record was originally intended to be called The Invisible Men, but the title changed to The Miracle late in the production process. Its tracks include “I Want It All,” “Breakthru,” “The Invisible Man” and the title song.
By this period, Mercury’s health had become a private concern within the band, and Queen increasingly worked in the studio without committing to a conventional promotional tour. The album became a UK number-one record and was Queen’s penultimate studio album released during Mercury’s lifetime. The digitally manipulated cover is therefore both a design landmark and a marker of the band’s late-1980s period.
