Which punk rock band released the album 'London Calling'?

The story behind the answer

The Clash released the album London Calling.

Released in the United Kingdom on December 14, 1979, London Calling was the Clash’s third studio album. The double album was recorded at Wessex Sound Studios in London during a five- to six-week period, with Guy Stevens producing. Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon formed the core lineup.

Although the Clash began as a punk band, London Calling expanded their sound into reggae, ska, rockabilly, rhythm and blues, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock. Its songs address unemployment, social displacement, racial conflict, drug use, and political anxiety. The title track was partly influenced by the 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear accident.

The album is often remembered for its famous cover photograph of bassist Paul Simonon smashing his bass onstage. It was also a major critical and commercial success, reaching No. 9 in the UK and later earning platinum certification in the United States. “Train in Vain” was added late and was initially missing from the printed track listing.
