Which punk band is fronted by vocalist Henry Rollins?
Answer
Black Flag
Answer
Black Flag
Black Flag is the punk band fronted by vocalist Henry Rollins. Rollins joined the influential California hardcore group in 1981, taking over vocal duties when Dez Cadena moved from singing to guitar.
Born Henry Lawrence Garfield, Rollins had already performed in Washington, D.C.’s hardcore scene with the band State of Alert. He first sang with Black Flag during an impromptu performance in New York, impressing the band with his intensity and stage presence.
Rollins recorded and toured with Black Flag until the group’s initial breakup in 1986. His tenure included the album Damaged, widely regarded as a landmark of American hardcore punk, as well as My War, Slip It In, and Loose Nut.
The answer can be confused with other major hardcore vocalists. Darby Crash fronted The Germs, Keith Morris helped lead the Circle Jerks, and Ian MacKaye fronted Minor Threat. Rollins later formed the Rollins Band and became known as a spoken-word performer, actor, writer, and presenter.
