The punk band fronted by Glenn Danzig that is known for “Die, Die My Darling” is the Misfits.
The Misfits were formed in Lodi, New Jersey, in 1977 by vocalist and songwriter Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. Their horror-film imagery, aggressive sound, and theatrical lyrics helped establish the horror punk style. Danzig wrote “Die, Die My Darling,” which was recorded in 1981 during sessions connected with Walk Among Us.
The song was not released immediately. It appeared in 1983 on the international version of Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood and was issued as a single in May 1984, about seven months after the band broke up. Its title was borrowed from the 1965 horror film Fanatic, released in the United States as Die! Die! My Darling!
A common mix-up comes from Metallica’s 1998 cover on Garage Inc. Metallica’s version introduced the song to many rock listeners, but the original recording belongs to the Misfits, with Danzig on vocals.
