Buzzcocks released the compilation Singles Going Steady in 1979.
The album was assembled as an introduction to the Manchester punk band's early singles, especially for American listeners. Its original format placed eight United Artists A-sides on one side and their corresponding B-sides on the other, creating a compact portrait of the group's 1977–1979 output. It was released in the United States by I.R.S. Records on September 25, 1979, alongside the band's American tour.
The collection includes influential songs such as "Orgasm Addict," "What Do I Get?," "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)," and "Promises." A frequent source of confusion is its UK release history: although the compilation was created and issued abroad in 1979, it was not officially released in the United Kingdom until 1981, after the band had split. The album is therefore correctly associated with 1979, but its British release date came later.
