Answer
George Allen & Unwin
Answer
George Allen & Unwin
George Allen & Unwin first released J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring in 1954.
The publisher issued the first volume of The Lord of the Rings in London on 29 July 1954. The Two Towers followed later in the same year, and The Return of the King appeared in 1955. Tolkien had initially hoped that the entire work would be published as one volume, but paper shortages and production costs helped lead to the three-volume format.
The Fellowship of the Ring begins in the Shire and follows Frodo Baggins after Bilbo’s departure. Gandalf discovers that Bilbo’s ring is the One Ring, and Frodo eventually leaves Rivendell with a fellowship made up of nine companions.
The American publisher Houghton Mifflin published the work in the United States. This can cause confusion when readers identify the American publisher rather than the original British one. George Allen & Unwin remained closely associated with Tolkien’s books during his lifetime.
