Coventry City was the only promoted team to lose its opening match of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
Coventry lost 3–0 away to defending champions Arsenal on 21 August 2026. The defeat came in the season opener, while the other two promoted clubs enjoyed victories the following day.
Hull City beat Manchester United 2–0, and Ipswich Town defeated Sunderland 2–1. As a result, Hull and Ipswich began their returns to the top flight with three points, while Coventry started without a point.
The promoted clubs were Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City. Leeds United was not part of that promotion group for 2026–27, so it is not an alternative answer even though Leeds also won during the opening weekend.
