Shaun Pulfrey pitched the Tangle Teezer hairbrush on Dragons' Den before the product achieved worldwide success.
Pulfrey developed the brush after working as a hair colourist and observing how conventional brushes could pull and damage hair. The Tangle Teezer uses flexible, differently sized teeth intended to detangle hair with less pulling than many traditional brushes.
His Dragons' Den appearance did not produce the outcome he wanted, but the product continued to develop outside the programme. Tangle Teezer later became an international brand sold through salons, retailers and online shops.
The story is a useful reminder that appearing on Dragons' Den is not the same as receiving an investment. Several well-known businesses gained attention from the programme despite leaving without a deal, and Tangle Teezer is among the clearest examples.
