Tangle Teezer became famous after entrepreneur Shaun Pulfrey pitched it on Dragons' Den.
Pulfrey developed the hairbrush after working as a hair colourist and noticing how difficult it could be to remove tangles without pulling or damaging hair. The brush used flexible teeth arranged to move through knots, giving it a distinctive design compared with conventional brushes.
He presented the product on Dragons' Den in 2007 but did not secure an investment deal. Despite that rejection, Tangle Teezer gained customers and later became an international haircare brand. Its story is often cited as an example of a televised rejection not preventing commercial success.
The product is sometimes mistakenly described as a conventional detangling comb. Tangle Teezer is specifically a branded hairbrush design, and its growth depended on product demonstrations, repeat consumer use, and distribution beyond the programme.
