Which presenter hosted the first series of the UK television programme Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Adrian Chiles hosted the first series of the UK television programme Dragon's Den.

The first series aired in 2005, before Evan Davis took over presenting duties from the second series onward. Chiles’s role involved introducing the entrepreneurs and explaining the setup while the investor panel assessed each proposal.

The change is an easy detail to overlook because Davis became the presenter most viewers associate with the long-running programme. Chiles was already known for television work and later became particularly associated with football, current affairs and daytime broadcasting.

The presenter does not act as a Dragon or decide whether an investment proceeds. Offers are made by the investors, and the programme’s on-screen agreements can still be subject to further due diligence after filming.
