Which presenter hosted the British television show Dragon's Den from its launch in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis hosted the British television show Dragon's Den from its launch in 2005.

Davis is a British journalist, economist and broadcaster who became the programme's original presenter. In that role, he introduced the entrepreneurs, explained the offers being made, and helped viewers follow the negotiations between founders and investors.

He had already become widely known through BBC journalism, including work on economics and business. His presentation gave the early series a clear explanatory voice, especially when a pitch involved company valuations, sales figures or equity percentages.

Davis did not serve as one of the Dragons. The Dragons are the investors seated opposite the entrepreneurs, whereas the presenter manages the programme around the pitches. He left Dragon's Den after the 2014 series and was succeeded by Nick Hewer, making the presenter role separate from the changing investor panel.
