Evan Davis has hosted the BBC programme Dragons' Den since its first British series.
Davis is a British journalist, presenter, and economist who became closely associated with the programme’s introductions, explanations, and interviews with entrepreneurs. Although the dragons are the most visible decision-makers, the presenter provides the links between pitches and helps viewers follow the commercial story.
Before and alongside Dragons' Den, Davis built a substantial broadcasting career at the BBC. He has presented news and current-affairs programmes, including Newsnight, and has worked in radio as well as television. His background in economics also fits the programme’s emphasis on sales, margins, valuation, and investment.
A common mix-up is to identify a dragon as the show’s host. The dragons are investors, not presenters: they question contestants and negotiate offers from the panel. Davis is the recurring presenter who guides the audience through the BBC format, while different investors have joined or left the panel over the years.
