Which position does Harry Potter play on the Gryffindor Quidditch team in J.K. Rowling’s novels?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter plays Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team in J.K. Rowling’s novels.

A Seeker’s main task is to find and catch the Golden Snitch, a small, fast golden ball with wings. Catching it usually ends the match and awards the seeker’s team 150 points. Harry’s exceptional flying ability makes him a natural fit for the position, and he becomes the youngest Hogwarts house-team Seeker in a century when he joins Gryffindor.

Quidditch teams also include three Chasers, two Beaters, and one Keeper. Chasers handle the Quaffle, Beaters defend teammates and disrupt opponents with Bludgers, and the Keeper guards the goal hoops. These roles are sometimes confused because all players fly on broomsticks.

Harry’s role is especially important to the series because Quidditch matches recur throughout his school years. He is also connected to the position through his father, James Potter, who played Seeker for Gryffindor.
